Job Description

The College of Health & Human Services at Western Michigan University seeks to fill an academic advisor senior – retention position to provide comprehensive retention services to undergraduate students in a lead capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.


• Three year’s professional academic advising experience.


• Strong interpersonal written and verbal communications skills.


• Three year’s of experience working with college students.


• Two year’s of experience actively serving on department, college level or university wide committees.


• Two year’s of active participation in professional development centered around academic advising, diversity , equity and inclusion within academic advising and the student experience for traditionally underrepresented populations, retention and leadership.


• Demonstrated awareness of the diverse needs of students, faculty and staff from underrepresented backgrounds.


• Demonstrated commitment to working with culturally diverse students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.


• Demonstrated commitment to promote and participate in professional development focused on the unique needs of culturally diverse students, faculty and staff including culturally responsive advising.


• Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field specific to hiring college, or higher education in general from an accredited institution.


• Professional academic advising experience at WMU.

Compensation

Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package.
