The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/ Competency Evaluated Nursing Assistant (CENA) is responsible for caring for residents both physically and emotionally to enhance quality of life, including ADL and rehabilitation activities. Essential functions include participating in nursing reports, assisting residents at mealtimes, bathing, grooming, hygiene, and placement of adaptive equipment, explaining procedures, keeping residents dry, assisting with bowel and bladder functions, emptying urinary drainage bags, assisting with lifting and positioning residents, performing restorative and rehabilitative procedures, answering call lights promptly, ensuring residents’ personal care needs are met, reporting changes in condition, changing bed linens, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with appointments and activities, providing post-mortem care, performing special nursing care duties, assisting with meals and hydration, recording entries accurately, participating in care conferences, performing admission, discharge and transfer duties, maintaining confidentiality, utilizing supplies properly, reporting defects, handling unusual occurrences calmly, maintaining effective communication, following safety and security guidelines, participating in educational activities, labeling and charging ancillary items for billing, and performing other assigned duties. Competency statements include accountability, accuracy, oral and written communication, customer orientation, detail orientation, empathy, honesty/integrity, interpersonal skills, and patience. Education preferred is High School Graduate or GED. No prior experience necessary. Computer proficiency required. Must have completed a state-approved Nursing Assistant program and maintain required certifications. Other requirements include ability to assist patients during therapy, special dementia care training if applicable, effective communication, ability to use computer for charting, operation of specific equipment, dependability, compassion, ability to work with elderly residents and staff, participation in continuing education, and adherence to employee handbook terms.
