Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I, the Crime Analyst (CA) III provides analytical and technical support on a variety of duties, issues, and concerns to the Bureau of Firearms (BOF) management and is the business subject matter expert (SME) on background related processes utilized for enforcement activities and enforcement investigative procedures. The BOF frequently implements new legislative mandates, therefore the CA III must be able to interpret multiple and competing objectives to ensure the corresponding enhancements are incorporated into the project. The position requires extensive knowledge of the firearm and/or ammunition eligibility check process and the applicable databases used by the BOF enforcement staff in the performance of their duties, as well as extensive knowledge of complex State and/or Federal firearm laws. The CA III is responsible for reviewing technical specification documents, comparing functional requirements to business rules, business process documents, and workflow diagrams to identify and document discrepancies and omissions pertaining to the BOF’s background process and the enforcement investigative practices; acting as the SME, demonstrating the knowledge of the work performed by the various programs within the BOF; providing recommendations on system enhancements to improve upon the current databases used by bureau staff; and assisting with the development, testing, and implementation of system enhancements. The CA III will be tasked with ensuring proposed system updates are in compliance with mandated reporting requirements and timeframes and align with the approved FITSM project objectives, scope, program strategic plan, and enterprise roadmap. Must be able to work independently and demonstrate discretion and flexibility. The CA III will be required on occasion to work overtime, which may include weekends and holidays.This is a Limited Term position which may be extended or become permanent.
