Job Description

Job Description

Company

David creates tools to increase muscle and decrease fat. Our first product is a protein bar. More broadly, David is a platform to develop high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that are craveable.

This is a compelling opportunity to be a part of an exciting new food brand as we operate within a critical growth stage. David is led by CEO Peter Rahal, the Cofounder and Former CEO of RXBAR ($600M exit to Kellogg in 2017). We have strong aspirations to become the most popular high-protein bar in North America and beyond.

Role and Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a Food Scientist to lead formulation, testing, and iteration across our product portfolio. You’ll be responsible for developing new formats and flavors, improving existing products, and scaling formulations from benchtop to production.

This is a hands-on role. Most of your time will be spent in the lab testing formulations and processes. The rest will focus on researching new ingredients and methods, documenting your work, and traveling to manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Product Development:
  • Conduct research and experiments to develop new food products and improve existing products.
  • Formulate and optimize product recipes and processes.
  • Evaluate product performance and sensory attributes.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure successful product launches.

  • Compliance:
  • Stay up-to-date on food safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Ensure all products meet food safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.

  • Sensory Evaluation:
  • Conduct sensory evaluations to assess product flavor, texture, and appearance.
  • Analyze consumer feedback and preferences.
  • Perform laboratory experiments, including physical property measurements.

What you’ll bring:

  • 3-6 years of industry experience in the food science field.
  • A strong curiosity and desire to discover the latest food technologies that can enable the design of high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that taste delicious.
  • A desire to challenge traditional methods and experiment.
  • High IQ/intellectual horsepower and accuracy.
  • A self-starting attitude with a love for executing on ideas and moving quickly.
  • Humble, self-aware, and curious.
  • A desire to build an early-stage CPG company with a mission to design tools to increase muscle and decrease body fat.
  • A strong EQ and a love for providing a great experience.
  • A self-starting attitude with a love for executing on ideas and moving quickly.
  • The ability to operate independently while clearly communicating your priorities and initiatives to the rest of the team.

Practicalities:

  • This is a full-time, in-office role based in New York City. We work onsite five days a week — when the culture fits, it is fun to be in the office together.
  • Salary: $100 - $120K per year, inclusive of cash bonus based on attainment of company targets.
  • Company equity opportunity on top of cash compensation.
  • 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental Insurance.
  • 401(k) with 4% match.
  • Additional perks, such as covered gym expenses.
  • Substantial and required PTO.

Application Process :

  • Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
  • The target start date for this role is August 2025.
