Volk Field is one of only four Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Centers in the nation, and the only one that does not share its airfield with a civilian airport. The Training Center Mission is to provide a year-round integrated training environment for units to enhance their combat capabilities and readiness. The DMA provides essential, effective, and responsive military and emergency management capability for the citizens of our state and nation. The DMA consists of several organizations working together to plan, prepare, coordinate, and respond effectively when our communities and neighbors need us the most. Position Summary: This position provides armed security services to protect property and persons from sabotage, fire, espionage, theft, vandalism, and other hazards; control entry and exit of all personnel, vehicles and equipment at entry points to the National Guard Facility or Base; assist and direct visitors; enforce parking regulations; ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations, rules and laws; prepare and maintain records; monitor base alarm systems; and attend training and safety classes.
New hires currently start at $25.38* per hour once they pass the qualification to carry firearms. This starting wage consists of a base pay of $23.38 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour add-on to the hourly rate for carrying a firearm while on duty. (The employer will provide the required firearm training.) These positions also have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit. For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period is required. The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9. All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
