General Statement of Job Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of the Parks & Recreation Department. Position works in multiple settings, primarily at the Senior Center, but also at various community and special events as needed to support the department. Position assists with a wide variety of recreational leisure programs and related activities for the senior population and the general public. Tasks include organizing, maintaining, and distributing supplies and equipment; working with community volunteers and civic groups; answering phones and other clerical duties; daily set up of tables and chairs; providing customer service to visitors and facility users; and monitoring facility rentals and programs. Reports to the Special Events Coordinator or Designee.
Special Duties & Responsibilities - Enforces rules and regulations concerning the Parks and Recreation facilities.
- Checks out equipment to members and their guests.
- Monitors sign-in/out sheets and monitors various areas of the facility ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
- Assists members with questions/requested information or directs them to appropriate personnel.
- Verifies receipts, handles income, and provides change.
- Completes and maintains various reports such as attendance, revenue, equipment breakdown, incident reports, etc.
- Inspects complaints or suspicious activities; reports to proper authorities.
- Opens and closes facility at appropriate hours.
- Assists/represents the Parks and Recreation Department with various community and special events. May require working outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- Secures cashbox and is responsible for monies.
- Picks up trash and ensures the facility is clean.
- Prepares facility, including chairs and tables, for rentals and events.
- Assists contracted instructors as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining first aid supplies, equipment, and inventory.
- Ensures first aid kit and AED are available in the event of an emergency.
- Wears proper County issued uniform and represents Spotsylvania Parks & Recreation.
- Assigns duties to volunteers; may supervise volunteers as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Training & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent and (1) year of experience performing administrative duties to include customer service preferred or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Complete and maintain all County and Parks and Recreation Department required training (in-person and/ or online) to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Sexual Harassment Training upon hire.
CPR, First Aid, and AED preferred. Training is provided after hire.
Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and mandatory drug screen.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment, including computers, telephones, fax machines, copy machines, calculators, etc. Requires the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to five (5) pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately if using automated office equipment. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, such as keyboards, control knobs, toggle switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds by ear). Requires the ability to communicate via telephone.
