As a member of the University Counseling Center (UCC) team, the Counselor/Therapist is responsible for the assessment and delivery of mental health services on an outpatient basis to students with varying emotional and psychological concerns. The Counselor/Therapist will split their full-time work hours between the University Counseling Center, the School of Law and other critical-need areas on campus as needed. The Counselor/Therapist will conduct initial consultations with students in order to determine a plan for future counseling services, referrals to alternative campus and/or community resources. Additional counseling services include prevention services, crisis intervention and outreach support to faculty, staff and student organizations. Primary responsibilities include overseeing phone, in-person and/or virtual triage and initial wellness consultation appointments, providing psychotherapy/counseling services for students individually, in couples or groups, traveling between SLU campuses to provide counseling services and serve as a clinical counseling liaison, offering crisis intervention services, utilizing diagnostic systems to diagnose and develop treatment plans, maintaining compliance with reporting laws and ethical standards, referring students to off-campus clinical services, providing outreach and education about UCC services, maintaining knowledge of mental health resources, keeping accurate records, participating in student well-being committees and UCC initiatives, and attending weekly Counseling Center meetings. The role requires a Master’s Degree and full licensure as LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist, three years of related work experience, Missouri licensure or eligibility, training in trauma-informed care, and sensitivity to diverse populations.
